A letter to my readers...
Tell me what you think, please.
About a year ago, I started writing WhatMatters.au to untangle the thoughts swirling about in my head. After closing Lot 8, our family restaurant, I was spending an unhealthy amount of time watching YouTube.
I wrote mostly to put down the thoughts that I would like to share with my family and friends, and with you. Thoughts that are interesting and mattered to me.
It is also a way to keep my ageing mind active and perhaps avoiding the path to early dementia.
“What Matters” is mostly the conversations that take place in my head. It keeps me interested in “stuff” and helps me learn new things. Ideas come from chats with my wife and children, reactions to people and the world at large, or when I eavesdrop on someone’s conversation or thoughts.
And I have had a lot of fun with it.
Now, I need your help. How can I make it better for you?
As I plan for the next year, I want to build it around what matters to you. I have a few questions that can help me shape the conversations going forward.
Here’s a simple 5-question survey (Google Form) that can help me improve on the newsletter.
You can also comment below. Basically, I would like to know what you enjoy reading, and if you would like the newsletter in other formats, like podcasts (to listen) or as a vlog (to watch on YouTube).
What Won’t Change
No ads, no spam
What Matters will be ad free because that’s how I like it when I am trying to read something. It is extremely annoying when ads keep popping up over the article, so I won’t do that. If I have enough subscribers, I would consider taking on sponsors but that’s still some ways to go.
No spam is a no-brainer.
Still mostly free
I write mostly to share ideas. So, I would still prefer that more rather than fewer people read it. For those who supported me as paid subscribers, a BIG, BIG thank you! It is one of the most encouraging things for a writer. THANK YOU!
I would also like to thank all the rest for being part of this messy, wonderful experiment. Here’s to another year of What Matters.
With gratitude,
Francis
P.S.
If you’ve been on the fence about becoming a paid subscriber, now’s the time to tell me what would tip the scales and make it worthwhile for you.
